OK, for the small benefit of those who want
to read something here about the boathouse, I'll
tell you a simple and rather pointless boathouse
story.
When the Lion King came out, a celebrity party
was scheduled in the newly refurbished
Adventureland. The Boathouse was brand new, and
I was a young and daring Cast Member in Main
Street Restaurants. Bussers were solicited from
all restaurants departments, and on the day of,
I happily checked out a Bengal BBQ costume and
headed to Adventureland. My first task? One
other guy and I were ordered to sweep out the
entire boathouse with custodial dustpans and the
little hand brooms before the very first
guests--the celebrities, no less--arrived to see
all the work. The Jungle Cruise opened for the
celebs that day (it hadn't re-opened for guests
yet), and Aladdin's Oasis showed 3 shows during
the course of the afternoon.
Anyhow, this guy and I dutifully swept the
entire thing and thoroughly enjoyed the
opportunity to see close-up and examine all the
incredible detail of the building. It was such a
forward-thinking design--large enough to keep
hundreds of people off of the street and out of
the walkways, and detailed enough to make the
wait for the Jungle Cruise fun. How unfortunate
that it has now (downstairs at least) largely
become a property of Indiana Jones and company.
Oh, well, for a brief time it was
just-about-perfect--and still is not-so-bad. And
I got to sweep it for the first guests! (There
wasn't anything but a few leaves, but then, as
always, the celebrity guest was given the royal
treatment, even if the normal guest is given the
short-shrift.)
